Mobilising For Nature - Volunteer Support
In September 2025 the Department of Conservation launched a three-year programme to inspire and motivate the public to pay more attention to protecting and restoring nature. The aim is to create a movement to ensure Aotearoa's unique biodiversity thrives for future generations. The Waikanae Estuary Care Group is participating in this programme. Furhter information about this programme can be found at: Volunteer: Getting involved
22 volunteers got stuck in on Saturday June 8th to plant 350 nursery grown native plants in Zone 12. They encountered the remains of an old bach at one end so plenty of difficulty squeezing roots between building rubble!
If YOU would like to Adopt this Plot and weed it regularly email us at: secretary@waikanaeestuary.org
Every planting results in at least 90% of the PB3 plastic containers being available for re-use as part of our sustainability goals. Wendy Smith and her friend Isobel Robertson are happy to recycle our PB3's in their garage at Seven Oaks Retirement Village. They are our unsung heroines. Thanks ladies.
